GURU-PURNIMA

Guru-Purnima Celebration

24th July was Guru Purnima this year. Guru Purnima, also known as Vyasa Purnima, is a day to honour our gurus. Let us take this occasion to understand who or what a guru is.

The word “Guru” literally means a ‘teacher’ or a ‘guide. Everyone requires a guru to show them the correct path. A guru enlightens us by making us better versions of ourselves. Every successful person, whether a scientist or a sportsperson has to thank his/her guru.

It’s not that a person can have only one guru, we learn different things from different people. Each and every one of them is responsible for our achievements and accomplishments. Even a book can be a guru for us. The Ramayana is a great example of a book being a guru. It teaches us about good moral values and the importance of always doing the right thing.

I believe in the “Guru Bina Gyan Nahi” philosophy, because our parents, teachers, books and even mother nature give us many life lessons. In short, a guru is the source of our knowledge. Guru Purnima is an auspicious day to pay reverence to our guru.

Gurus have always transformed the world sometimes themselves and sometimes by inspiring their pupil. From Siddhartha Gautam, Adi Shankara and to Swami Vivekananda, they all have led us towards a better and a more meaningful life.
